Meticulously cared for by two brothers and their delightful sister and perched on the hill above Souda Bay, the Aptera Bay View apartments, share a privileged position overlooking Souda Bay a view first enjoyed by the Minoans when they built their fortress at Aptera  just over 500 meters away. Chosen as a good viewpoint then, it still cuts the mustard these days and although theres no longer any need to keep watch for pirates, its certainly very pleasant to sit on your balcony at breakfast with a bowl of yogurt and honey and watch the ferries and fishing boats plying their way across the bay. Perfect for a holiday in Crete where the culture of sigar, sigar (slowly, slowly) gradually seeps into your being.

These smart, sparkling white apartments arranged in two separate units, have a generosity in their layout which is reflected in the prettily flowered gardens in which they sit.
The lovely 6.30m x 13.50m pool has a separate childrens pool and is set beside a large lawn, with space a plenty for sun beds under the shade of the palm trees.
Conveniently, three tavernas can be found in the village of Megala Horafia, 1 km away, as well as a small mini market. A further 3 kms brings you to  the tiny hamlet of Kyani with a choice of 2 tavernas and a quiet sandy beach and if you drive for  5 minute more you will arrive at the bustling seaside town of Kalives.

Studios

The two studios are at ground floor level in the centre of each unit, making them very convenient to combine with the one or two bedroom apts for family groups who require a little extra privacy. The front door leads from an arched terrace into the open plan studio furnished with twin beds and a Cretan sofa for a third person and solid wooden dining table and chairs.  French doors open onto a generous and private sea view balcony, furnished with outside dining furniture. The neat kitchenette has a tidy run of wooden cupboards, a two ring hob, a small oven and a fridge. There is a tiled shower room.

Some 12 km from Chania and perched atop a thyme-covered hillside overlooking the islands of Souda Bay the small village of Megala Horafia with a population circa 300, still boasts a church or two, plus a local kafenion, three tavernas and a thriving economy based on sheep and honey!
